The Best of the California Coast - 2 Day Tour
Enjoy two days of riding on the California coast, fully supported by Dutch Diesel Cycling. The tour will include begin in Carmel and include lodging, snacks, refreshments, and plenty of opportunities to take pictures of some of the world famous landmarks on our route. After we reach our final destination in San Simeon on day 2, we will provide transportation back to our hotel in Carmel. This tour requires a minimum 6 participants.
Standing on a granite hillside off California's scenic 17-mile drive in Pebble Beach, the Lone Cypress (almost 250 years old) is a western icon, and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America.
Day 1: The 17 Mile Drive Loop
We will start our California coast experience with a meet and greet at our hotel in Carmel. Today will be mostly about getting to know the group and doing some sight seeing in the Carmel area. The route today will be 30 - 40 miles with a loop between Carmel and Monterey. The ride includes the world famous 17 mile drive where we will have views on the Pacific ocean, ride by the Lone Cypress and pedal through the Pebble Beach golf course area.
After our ride there will be time to freshen up in the hotel before we head out for lunch. The rest of the day you will have free time to explore the Carmel and Monterey or just relax at the hotel in preparation for the epic coastal ride on day 2 of the tour.
Day 2: Carmel to San Simeon
Today will be an early start as the route calls for 85 miles of riding, and we want to make sure we have time to take in the views at the Bixby Bridge and McWay Falls. After breakfast you can drop off comfortable clothes and other items, like a camera perhaps, at the support van before we leave at 9:00 AM for our epic ride along the beautiful California coast. The support vehicle will carry enough food and drinks to keep us fueled at the rest stops.
When we arrive at our destination there will be time to change and explore the Piedras Blancas Light Station and surrounding area, while we load up your bike on the van in preparation for the drive back to our hotel. Back in Carmel, we will say our good byes and you can continue whatever plan you have and hopefully reflect on two great days of riding with Dutch Diesel Cycling.
The Bixby Bridge, on the Big Sur coast of California, is one of the most photographed bridges in California. The bridge is 13 miles (21 km) south of Carmel along State Route 1. Before the opening of the bridge in 1932, residents of the Big Sur area were virtually cut off during winter due to the often impassable Old Coast Road that led 11 miles (18 km) inland. The bridge has the longest concrete arch span at 360 feet (110 m) on the California Highway System. It is one of the tallest single-span concrete bridges in the world.
McWay Falls is an 80 feet (24 m) waterfall that flows year-round from McWay Creek in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, about 37 miles (60 km) south of Carmel, California. The waterfall is one of two in California that cascade directly into the ocean, the other being Alamere Falls.
